CIA Leak
The deputy inspector general for the CIA, assigned to probe allegations against the CIA and 3rd party vendors in Afghanistan and Iraq, was recently fired for allegedly revealing classified material regarding misdeeds of the agency. Mary O. McCarthy, a twenty plus year veteran of the agency, generally described as being apolitical, was disenchanted with the Bush administration's intelligence policies when she discovered that lies were told to House intelligence committee members in 2005.
Her release from the Central Intelligence Agency stands as mute testimony to the resistance even senior agency officials have to the cruel, degrading, and inhumane treatment of detainees, in violation of international treaties, and continues the shake up at the Country's top foreign intelligence gathering organization. The Bush White House's divergence from accepted American policy on counterterrorism has led to a division even among the non political officers in the ranks of the C.I.A.
Making a false case for the attack on a foreign nation to the American people, engaging in widespread violations of international treaties dealing with human rights, including the Geneva Convention, disarray, forced resignations, and now criminal investigations into the top tier of the Bush administration's C.I.A all evidence an Administration out of control.
It is time to put the check, back into the checks and balances that our forbearers wrote into the Constitution. It is time to elect a Democratic Senator as a check on this out of control Republican Administration in Washington.
