Mehnert States his Intentions to Democratic Caucus

My name is Eric Mehnert and I am proud to be a Democratic candidate for US Senate. I'm a "Populist". I am concerned about the Concentration of Capital usurping the rights of the average American. The Social Contract, which is at the heart of our democratic system, as well as the Democratic Party, is not being honored.

In 6 short years, we have gone from a Record SURPLUS, to a Record DEFICIT while constant tax cuts for the very rich are causing the decay of our schools and our lifestyle, depriving both our youth and elderly of a decent future. Our environment is threatened by a President who refuses to even acknowledge that Global Warming exists, much less act to protect our air and water. Our nation is mired in a war based upon false pretenses. What's more, while our young men and women are being put into harm's way, this President has slashed funding for Veteran's services.

Underlying all these issues is the erosion of our Constitution and our Bill of Rights - the very framework of our government itself. Warrantless Wiretapping, limits on Freedom of Speech, suspension of Habeas Corpus, use of Torture… there are too many examples to cite! With a Republican controlled Congress, a Radical Judiciary and a Neo-Con Executive there are No Checks, No Balances. In '06, the ONLY place where we can make a difference is in the Legislative branch. We must re-elect our Democratic Representatives to the House and we Must, MUST take back the Senate.

As a Civil Rights lawyer, I have devoted my life & my career to these issues. I have had over seven precedent setting cases on civil rights published. I know how to use legislation to defend out rights and liberties and I want to go to work for you, for our children, for all of us.
