This weekend as I sat in my living room reading a book by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. entitled Crimes Against Nature, I thought of how thankful I am for people of courage and integrity. This got me thinking of other things that I am thankful for. As I listen to the reports coming out of Iraq, I am thankful for the men and women of our armed forces who show us courage and integrity to defend our nation. As I listen to reports of radio stations organizing food drives for the less fortunate, I am thankful for the mothers and fathers who deliver food to these organizations showing that compassion and empathy still thrive in Maine. But most of all, as I think of the future and what I want for my children, I am thankful for the vision, courage and compassion of the People of Maine. I hope you enjoy your holiday surrounded by friends and family. Let us be thankful for what we have and renew a commitment to ourselves and our children to work to make this a better place to live for all Mainers.
